DAY 04. SHIRA PLATEAU – BARRANCO CAMP (13,000 Ft)

When you wake up at 6 am today, you will find the entire Shira Plateau at your feet, with the entire Shira Plateau at your feet, with breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the Shira Needles. A steady walk takes you up to Lava Tower Pass (15,000 feet), where you will stop for lunch. After crossing Bastains Creek, you begin the descent to Barrancoo Camp.
Grand Barranco is a huge canyon. Numerous waterfalls fed by streams from the mountain converge here to form the Umbwe River. Your camp is set up at about the

Another early start for birdsong, as you begin your hike to karanga camp (which is at the same elevationas Barranco camp, so you should now be well acclimatized to this elevation). In the afternoon, you have the option of hiking in the Karanga Valley, where senecious and lobelia giants grow. Rest as much as possible to prepare for the climb ahead.
DAY 06. CAMP KARANGA – CAMP BARAFU (15,200 feet)

The beautiful scenic climb to Barafu is mostly done on desert terrain in the Alps, a mostly mineral
environment with few flax seeds and mosses. Mawenzi Peak towers majestically to the right and Kibo
Peak seems a stone’s throw away. Arrival at Barafu Camp is expected shortly before 3:00 p.m. Climbers
wishing to attempt the summit should retire early tonight, as the next day is the longest of the entire climb.
DAY 07. ASCENT TO SUMMIT (19,430ft) / DESCENT TO MWEKA CAMP (10,200ft)
